I had O&M lesson #2 tonight. Relearning how to walk basically is freaking exhausting. And S made me go into Shaws without J. I hate the grocery store. It stresses me out and is a big cause of sensory overload. But then S gave me a system for how to get through the store ok so I just have to follow that and slow down, that's a big one, no more running marathons in the grocery store, s l o w down, have to remember that. Even though my gut says "get out get out get out, go faster faster faster so you can get out of here" I have to ignore that and slow down which will be safer and probably less stressful in the long run.
So things I'm supposed to do in the house now apply to stores- trailing techniques, finding a focal point, and tracking. Also NO LOOKING AT THE LIGHTS! Don't look up, my focal point needs to be lower, around elbow height, safer that way.
Also at street crossings- find the biggest threat and wait until it is controlled before looking at the lesser threats, and assume all drivers are bad drivers. Safer that way.
Oh yeah, also supposed to think of stores, drive ways and streets as the same- they all have intersections. Stop even for a little and look at all intersections. Have to remember that, that is hard.
From lesson #1- trailing means sticking to the walls and following along the wall. finding a focal point means breaking the space up and finding something in the line to focus on that you can get to safely. Tracking- use my eyes to scan and find something in a section.
