Cool!

Today I got my 1st request for a commissioned painting! I'm pretty excited!!!

I paint oil paintings of dogs for a hobby. Ok this year I also started to branch out and paint people too, but I still prefer to paint dogs. I started about 2 years ago when my shrink kept getting on my case to "Get a hobby." When I tried to claim dogs as a hobby he said, "Dogs aren't a hobby, they are your life!" So after about a year and a half of listening to him tell me I needed to do something outside of the dog world, I decided to try my hand at painting and signed up for classes at the local studio. And turns out, people tell me I'm pretty good at it!

I painted 2 paintings for my friend L of her 2 dogs. One of her Vizsla when he was a puppy and pointing in a field. And the other of her corgi's butt (it's a funny joke between her and her dog, the dog has an attitude and when she wants to be sure that L really wants her attention, if L calls her name, the dog will stop, cock her ears back but not actually turn around and look at L, so the painting is named, "The Usual View", since that's the view of the dog that L usually has in the fields on walks!). Not having any place to put them in her apartment, L has them hung at the vet hospital where she works in the waiting area.

And today I got an e-mail from someone who saw those paintings at the vet clinic and she wants me to paint a painting of her dog! Pretty damn cool!!

So I e-mailed the woman back with how I work and some ideas on pricing and will just have to see what she says. So far I've sold 2 paintings (and have a rack full of others I'm trying to sell, bad economy for selling artwork right now) and a few prints. It would be really cool if this works out and maybe I could get some more commissions. Would help my income right now that's for sure.
